The Illusuak Cultural Centre was completed in the fall of 2017 and stands as a proud celebration of the region’s Inuit heritage. Illusuak is an Inuktitut word for “sod house,” the traditional summer home of Labrador Inuit, which served as the inspiration of the stunning design. The center will be a home for permanent exhibits, audio-visual performing arts theatre, a café, gift shop and several associated offices.

In such a snow burdened area, the ability of the center to withstand some of the fiercest winter weather conditions was a crucial factor in the planning process. This was a primary reason that Kebony was chosen to clad the exterior of this 12,000 square foot, $12 million project. The natural wood exterior complements the surroundings with ease, helping it to stand out as both a regional and cultural gem.
