Behind the project is Björling Arkitektur. The goal was to create a cabin that meets all needs without building larger than necessary. The result is a compact cabin with smart solutions, where every square metre is maximally utilised—without compromising comfort or style. By reducing the footprint, both physically and environmentally, not only are lower costs and reduced resource consumption achieved, but also a closeness to nature that is rare in modern buildings.
One of the most striking qualities of the cabin at Islandberg is how it opens towards its surroundings. Large window surfaces invite nature in, allowing light and landscape to fill the rooms. When the doors slide aside, the boundary between inside and outside is almost erased.
Material use and colour choices are carefully adapted to the landscape. The natural grey tone that develops in Kebony over time matches the granite rock formations and gives the building a subdued, harmonious expression. The terrace feels like an extension of the rock, and the interior flows seamlessly into nature.
Environmentally Friendly Materials That Last for Generations
The cabin features cladding in Kebony Character, an environmentally friendly wood developed to withstand Nordic climates without the need for regular maintenance. Kebony is a sustainable choice. The wood undergoes a biological treatment with furfuryl alcohol, a technology that gives the wood a hardness and durability that competes with exotic wood species.
