How to Install Stair Treads using the Kebony Deck Board

Installing the Kebony Deck Board as Stair Treads

Two rows of Kebony Deck Boards will fit perfectly on most stair treads. We recommend using a double-grooved board as the inner row and the single-grooved deck board as the outer row.

  1. Cut the double-grooved board to length and place against the riser leaving a ¼ inch gap.
  2. Using #8 Stainless Steel screws or the Pro Plug System for Kebony, put two screws on each joist keeping the screws 1 inch from the sides of the board. When face-fastening, always pre-drill.
  3. Place the single-grooved board against the double-grooved with the groove facing towards the riser and leave a ¼ inch gap. This should leave a small overhang of about an inch on the tread.
  4. Using #8 Stainless Steel screws or the Pro Plug System for Kebony, put two screws on each joist keeping the screws 1 inch from the sides of the board. When face-fastening, always pre-drill.
  5. If you want to hide the grooved profile on the side of the stair tread, you can use a picture frame board.
