To completely relax, breathe in pure forest air, and just be in a community entirely for yourself. This was the vision of the founder Aziz Chaer when he came up with the idea of GREND

A concept created from a desire to offer something unique combined with sustainability, comfort, community, and the feeling of being “one with nature”.
The project consists of 5 microhouses in Bø in Telemark. Specifically, right next to Sommarland in Bø. The microhouses are located in a grove right by civilization, but are still not easy to spot when you drive up the hill. They are well hidden among trees, paths, water, and fresh air.

Innovative concept

The project is unique in the sense that it also serves as student housing for students in the area. The students have the opportunity to live in natural surroundings with hiking areas right outside the door while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in, for example, Sustainable Management. Seeing energy efficiency in practice makes this project truly special for both students and other visitors.

Energy efficiency in practice

The microhouses are built with a focus on minimal footprint. Local raw materials combined with sustainable materials resulted in a collaboration with Kebony.
With Kebony Character decking, all GREND houses have secured a terrace for a long time. This is a unique wood product made from Nordic pine with long durability and an exclusive appearance. Character is untreated Nordic pine with knots and untreated heartwood.
GREND wanted guests to experience a tranquility that only the inner nature can provide. The terrace is placed among trees, birdsong, and fresh air, so guests can enjoy the best nature has to offer while feeling at peace.

Kebony technology

Although Kebony technology gives a deep rich brown color, the decking at GREND does not have such an appearance. Kebony Character changes in harmony with sunlight and rain. The color develops in tune with nature and eventually acquires a natural, silver-gray patina.
GREND is a pioneering project that shows it is possible to complete an entire construction process from A to Z with sustainability and low footprint as the highest priority. For Kebony, this is also a project that meets our own requirements from the 2022 Sustainability Report, which includes, among other things, a reduction in carbon footprint. It is important to us that our projects do not compromise with nature and our own climate and sustainability values as a company.
Thank you for letting us be part of the future in harmony with nature.
