This Kebony wood deck was installed in June 2021. Nearly two years later, the homeowners are still just as satisfied. The wood has developed an elegant, uniform silver patina that enhances the pool and echoes several elements of the house.
This Kebony wood deck is located in a residential area of Salles-sur-Mer, 12 kilometres from La Rochelle and 3 kilometres from Châtelaillon-Plage. A couple and their two children, aged 14 and 7, live in this contemporary home year-round. The pool is a major asset, and this new deck provides easier and safer access to it.
“ We wanted to modernise the look of the house and use premium materials, while enhancing the pool access. The colour combinations between the façade and the deck were carefully considered. The finish of this Kebony wood deck is very pleasing. It adds depth and provides superb spaces to enjoy the pool, while preserving an area for meals as well as a relaxation space around the pool ,” explain the homeowners.
The Kebony wood deck extends the existing travertine terrace. It frames the pool and connects to a grassy area. The quality of the wood and its silver tone harmoniously tie together the different elements of this outdoor space.
The patented Kebony process involves polymerising the cell walls of sustainably sourced softwood by heating it with furfuryl alcohol—an organic-based product. This is how it acquires all the qualities of tropical hardwood while remaining environmentally responsible. Kebony wood is therefore durable and resistant, even in maritime climates. It requires no special maintenance and does not produce splinters, which was an important criterion for this family with children. The previous deck, despite being made from class 4 treated pine, did in fact produce splinters, making it unpleasant to walk barefoot around the pool.
Convinced by the quality and longevity of Kebony wood, and won over by its screw-free aesthetic that pairs perfectly with stone, the couple chose this material and have been delighted with it ever since.
