Sustainable Kebony Clear wooden shingles finish the central dome at new project housing more than 10,000 endangered plant species
The Meise Botanic Garden in Belgium has launched the Green Arch project to conserve endangered plants. This includes renovating a 7,600m² greenhouse complex and building a hyperboloid pavilion from sustainable Kebony Clear wood. Opening in May 2024, the Green Arch is housing over 10,000 species across 22 greenhouses with independently regulated climates.
Key features include a rainwater recycling irrigation system and energy-efficient design. The project aims to be a conservation, research, and educational hub for 240,000 annual visitors, emphasizing climate change and biodiversity.
The Green Arch is a collaboration between several organizations and the Flemish Government, using Kebony wood for its durability and sustainability, showcasing the blend of modern architecture and ecological responsibility.
