Winner of the 2022 Prairie Wood Design Award, the Waskesiu Beach House and its Kebony wood cladding serve as a gateway for visitors to its namesake lake.
Waskesiu, SK – September 21, 2022 – The Waskesiu Beach House, a modern public beach pavilion clad in Kebony wood, was recently completed on the shores of Waskesiu Lake.
The 260 m² structure, located in Prince Albert National Park and designed by the Winnipeg-based architecture studio 1×1, serves as a portal to the lake for swimmers and beachgoers. Clad and finished with Kebony modified wood, the beach pavilion has already won a Prairie Wood Design Award in the “Recreational” category.
“Wood was chosen as the primary material for this beach pavilion because the client, Parks Canada, strongly recommends the use of natural materials in its constructions,” said Travis Cooke of 1×1, the project designer. “We opted for Kebony wood because we had already used it successfully on previous projects, and we were aware of its resistance to heavy use, which will test the facility during the summer months. Furthermore, we appreciate its ability to maintain a natural appearance.”
