Kebony Character

Kebony Character products are produced from FSC™-certified Pinus Sylvestris and contain knots and untreated heartwood. They should not be further machined, or split, as untreated heartwood will be exposed. Kebony Character products can be cross-cut to length. Exposed end grain after cross-cutting must be treated with a wood preservative. Kebony woods have a deep brown color that will turn to silvergrey patina over time. The speed of this greying process depends on the intensity of exposure to sun and rain and type of application. Developed in Norway, the Kebony technology is an environmentally friendly, patented process that enhances the properties of sustainable softwood. Kebony is a low-maintenance material that does not require any additional treatment beyond normal cleaning.

New Weathererd

Kebony is a highly durable, sustainable wood with the aesthetics and performance of the best tropical hardwoods. It requires no maintenance beyond normal cleaning and brings low life-cycle costs. Kebony is available in Clear and Character grade. Clear has a smooth and even look, while character contains the knots of the branches. Choosing between those two variants is often a matter of personal taste and preference.

Kebony is a natural wood product. For outdoor applications the appearance will be influenced by local environmental conditions over time. Colour changes and surface cracks will occur due to natural weathering. There will be variations in color and how the color change develops over time. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any of such variations in colour and surface appearance. This will not influence durability and overall performance of the product.

Wood species used for the wood modification process are typically sustainably sourced, non-durable softwood species (e.g., pines), which all have a natural light colour. The Kebony® technology gives the wood a deep, rich brown colour, comparable to the look of tropical hardwoods. After exposure to sun and rain, the wood usually develops a silver-grey patina, while maintaining its high-performance properties. The original colour can be maintained using UV protection oils.
