Nestled on the serene shores of a family lake in Austin, Québec, House on the Pond is a compact, dual-season pavilion designed by Atelier Échelle as a flexible retreat for four, doubling as a welcoming guest house when needed. Crafted as a “jewel box,” it elegantly unfolds across a series of terraces, expanding comfortably in summer and retracting into intimacy in cooler seasons. The layout weaves private interior volumes with inviting al fresco spaces, ensuring the home balances solitude with hospitality.
Kebony wood was used for the exterior cladding and decks, lending natural warmth and durability that resonates with the site’s rustic vernacular. The material’s low-maintenance resilience makes it ideal for lakeside exposure, while its refined aesthetic complements the pavilion’s architectural intent of seamless indoor-outdoor harmony.
